Sequoia has been a fine artist for the past 20 years and her work is shown in galleries across the country. In 1991 she became the co-director with Jack of the Fine Arts Discovery Program at Camarillo State Hospital pouring her creative energy into their work with people suffering mental illness and others facing developmental disabilities. This was a prolific time for Sequoia. She is always creative and inspired when working with others. The art she created at that time provided a view into her deep compassionate soul.

Sequoia’s path took a new direction in 1996 when she was appointed Artist Facilitator for Salinas Valley State Prison, directing a multi media arts program for the inmates incarcerated there. It was at his time, also, that she was called into her healing practice which she devoted her time to when not at the prison. The thread of continuity in her painting at this point was severed. With her life full of challenges and new growth, there seemed no time for the figurative compositions which had populated her creative landscape for years. Little did she know that the changes in her would mean profound changes in her art.
